A Guide to Using Art Deco Lighting

Art deco lighting gives an interesting touch to any room. These lighting fixtures aren’t your typical lamps. Art deco lighting can give a more homey feeling to modern rooms. It can also make a traditional feel more inviting and less stuffy.  Here are some tips to help you use art deco lighting.

Directions

1.      Choose mood lighting. Fluorescence isn’t a trait of art deco lighting. It gives a room a warm glow that makes it seem more romantic. To change the feel of a room, install a dimmer switch on the light you currently have.

2.      Search for glass shades. Art deco lighting is often covered with glass shades be it a lamp or a ceiling fixture. If you want a more modern, look for frosted glass. If you are attempting the true art deco style, you should go with stained glass. These are usually made from white milky glass, with some accent pieces in purple or sea foam. You want them to have an architectural component rather than just the normal shade.

3.      Use orbs because they are a theme commonly used in art deco lighting. Reading may not be possible with this lamp, but mosaic orbs give rooms color. They also are fashionable, night lights in art deco nurseries.

4.      Don’t be afraid of going over the top. You want your art deco lighting to be noticed. Your lamp can have monkeys on it or maybe a Grecian figurine. It’s all about combining function as well as beauty. Use this as a way to share your personality with others. Also if you want to change your style, it won’t cost a lot to replace the lamp.

5.      Use sconces. Your home could have art deco lighting, and you don’t even know it. Shell shaped sconces are built on the sides of many fireplaces. It was quite popular in the 80’s, so you may not want to go back to that era. You can make them over by changing the shades though. If you decide to go completely art deco, the sconces will add to your room.

Art deco lighting should be noticed so make it your room’s focal point.
