Buying a Table Lamp

The purpose of a table lamp are two-fold. The first purpose is to take care of lighting needs, and the second role is to enhance the style of a room. When you buy a table lamp, you want to make sure it meets both of those requirements. Following these guidelines can help you do just that.

I want to do this! What's This?

1. Take your time and decide on the size of the lamp that will work best for you. On narrow furniture, a candlestick lamp may offer the best advantage. A larger area can benefit from a larger table lamp.

2. What style of lamp fits your needs? A modern, hip lamp will seem at odds in a Victorian themed living-room. In the same fashion, a plain wooden lamp will look out of place in a hip and trendy bedroom.

3. Getting the lamp’s measurements is very important. It is imperative that your lamp be the correct size to provide light in the appropriate area. As for you personally, the table lamp you choose should be tall enough to aid you whether you are standing or sitting.

4. Know the maximum wattage you need. If you are reading, you need a lamp of 150 or more watts.

5. When the lamp is observed from a distance of a couple of feet, the lower edge of the shade should over up the bulb socket. Not only does this make the table lamp look more lovely, but the positioning also reduces the glare potential.

6. Make sure the shade works for you. The color helps control the light input. If you want a shade that limits the light output, then a darker shade will work best. A white, lamp covering has a lucent feature and gives off a huge amount of life.

 7. Before you purchase your lamp shade, make sure that you can swap the shade later on if you need to for decorative reasons. In a similar line, make sure that you can also bring the lamp back for a full refund or exchange. If the lamp doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work, and you will need to be able to get something else.

8. Don’t just take the lamp home and assume all is well. Be sure and test the lamp, with you standing and then with you sitting. Make sure it works for you no matter where you are in the room. If necessary, move the shade to reduce glare coming from the lamp.
