Lighting Floor Lamps

Everything about Fluorescent Floor Lamps

Fluorescent floor lamps, known also as circline lamps, are a popular option to use instead of the incandescent lamps that have ruled the lighting industry for years. There are several reasons that homeowners are beginning to use fluorescent lights. The lights last longer, and this can be a money saving investment.

There are many options in fluorescent lighting such as the straight tube, found in kitchens, CFL’s, the replacement to the standard incandescent bulb, and the circline floor lamp, which is the replacement to the standard incandescent lamp.

The floor lamp is usually made in two kinds: the 8ft model that works at 75 watts and the 4ft model that functions at 40 watts.  The lifespan of the fluorescent floor lamp is very long, around 12,000 hours which is frequently up to ten times greater than the incandescent bulbs lives, 750-2,500 hours.

Fluorescent lighting works by carrying electricity through a ballast that controls the current and then to the light, where it meets mercury. The mercury makes a UV light that can’t be seen by humans without technological assistance. What we usually see is the fluorescent bulb’s coating, which comes from phosphor that glows once it is hit by the UV light. Usually a circline lamp will be used for ambient lighting and is found in a large indoor space. Circline lamps don’t exhibit a great deal of direct glare so they are good for low-level lighting.

The cost of using a fluorescent floor lamp is less than using an incandescent floor lamp. Initially incandescent lights are cheaper, but as much as 80% of their energy is burnt as heat. The fluorescent floor lamp works 25-35% more efficient so they don’t use as much electricity. They don’t have to be replaced as often because  of their longevity which makes replacement costs lower.
